6. What is a Socratic Seminar?
The Socratic seminar is a formal discussion, based on a text, in which the leader asks open-ended questions. Within the context of the discussion, students listen closely to the comments of others, thinking critically for themselves, and articulate their own thoughts and their responses to the thoughts of others

Class notes
August 11th:
Describe your most memorable moment from class.
Coincidentally having the same birthday as Dr.Preston 🙄
August 12:
What's your favorite music and how would you describe it to a deaf person?
I listen to everything I don't necessarily have a favorite but I'm going to a rebelution concert this week so I'll say reggae. I'd describe as very positive music and soothing also.
August 16:
We use phrases like "pay attention" & "make a decision " all the time. What do they mean to you? How would you teach a child to do either? How might you approve you're abilitys in these areas?
These mean demands that are probably being said for an Important reason. my child would probably learn these by live experiences, such as small things like "what do you want to eat ? Make a decision." I can improve in these areas by learning how to focus better.
August 17:
Why do people argue? What factors should I determine who wins in an argument?
People argue in my opinion just to prove a point. If someone isn't trying to prove something in an argue there really isn't any reason to argue. Facts and evidence win arguments.

Ancient Stories
The language in this text is very similar to the everyday language we speak everyday. Especially for an ancient story were the language is always broken and different. The reason it is similar to language is because there are multiple animals and they're not really arguing but calaborating on how they're gonna get this lady back to where she came from.
The Earth on the Turtle's back
I didn't exactly know what the poem was trying to say, so much was going on at once. But it seemed as a lot of stress was relieved when the muskrat said "I will bring up the Earth or die trying". This to me shows a lot of heart and determination. So maybe what the poem is trying to say is that we will be faced with obstacles everyday and no matter how impossible they seem if you give it your all till you have no more you can overcome anything.
